Journal #8: Power & Capitalism

For this next journal, please examine how YOU are affected by the following key terms from the last two days of readings:

–intersectionality

–imposter syndrome

–“judges of normality”

–power (as defined by Foucault)

–capitalism (as discussed by Marx)

Choose at least 3 to address. You may do this as a reflection of each term OR you are also welcome to do a visual representation. The main requirements are to define the term using the course material (and if desired class discussion) and show how it connects to you/you as a reflection of the term. You must cite at least 3 of the required readings/videos from these last 2 weeks.

Journals 6 & 7: 13th/Summer of Soul and the consequences of oppression

Hi all:

For this next journal, you all will be writing a reflection connecting key points in your readings from Weeks 6, 7, 8 & 9 to the documentary, 13th/Summer of Soul. Β In addition, to demonstrating how the readings might add to the analysis in 13th/Summer of Soul, please address the following question: how does your race and/or gender connect to both the readings and the documentary?

Logistics:

  • The analysis should be 4 – 5 pages.
  • 12 point font, double space, standard 1 inch margins.
  • Post the paper as either a pdf or word doc on canvas.
  • Use citations in essay; for example, (bell hooks, p. 40).
  • Be sure to use at least 4 differing readings from Weeks 6-9 and use a range of examples from 13th/Summer of Soul to support your reflection.
  • This journal counts as 2–therefore, 10 points.
