Journal #2: Sociological Imagination
To complete your second journal entry, please write a reflective essay on the assigned readings and class discussion on the sociological imagination. Consider the following questions to help you write your essay. You do not have to answer all of them.
- What is the sociological imagination? How is it connected to sociological mindfulness?
- Think about the self-portrait you completed in class. Are there ways you can connect your portrait to the readings?
- Can you use the sociological imagination as a tool to explore your everyday experiences? If so, give examples.
- What was your favorite reading? Why?
- What useful ideas, terms, or concepts did you find in the reading?
- In other words, what are your thoughts on the readings?
Logistics:
- 2-3 pages
- 12 point font, double space, standard 1 inch margins
- Post your essay under “Journal 2” in “Assignments” on Canvas
- Essay format: Introduction with thesis, Body of the essay with topic sentences for paragraphs, and a conclusion
- Use citations in essay. For example: (Mills pg. 5)
- Use both of the readings for Week 3: Mills & Schwalbe Ch1. You may also include bell hooks’s reading on Engaged Pedagogy and Love.
